# Glossary (/docs/get-started/glossary)

The words below have a specific meaning in Monime. Across the docs, the first mention of each on a page is underlined: hover over it, or focus it with the keyboard, to see its definition here.

## Access token

*Also: access tokens, Personal Access Token, personal access token, PAT*

A secret that authenticates your API requests, sent as `Authorization: Bearer …`. A Monimeer creates it in the dashboard, and it can only do what both its own roles and its creator's roles allow.

## Checkout Session

*Also: Checkout Sessions, checkout session, checkout sessions*

A Monime-hosted payment page for a set of items. You create it through the API, send the customer to its `redirectUrl`, and Monime returns them to your site when they finish.

## Dash

*Also: Dash app*

Monime's app for sending and receiving money in Sierra Leone. Customers open dots from its Dots tab.

## Dot

*Also: Dash Dots, Dash Dot, Dots, dots, dot*

A mini app that runs inside Dash, also called a Dash Dot, with Dash's payment rails built in. Customers open it from Dash's Dots tab, with nothing new to download. A dot belongs to a Space, and the Monimeers who build it work on it as members of that Space.

## Financial Account

*Also: Financial Accounts, financial account, financial accounts*

An internal ledger that holds money in a single currency within a Space. Every payment, payout and transfer moves money into or out of one.

## Financial Transaction

*Also: Financial Transactions, financial transaction, financial transactions*

A single credit or debit to a Financial Account. Together, an account's financial transactions are the full history of how its balance changed.

## Idempotency key

*Also: idempotency key, idempotency keys, Idempotency keys*

A unique value sent in the `Idempotency-Key` header, so a request that is retried is never carried out twice. Monime remembers each key for 24 hours, per Space.

## Internal Transfer

*Also: Internal Transfers, internal transfer, internal transfers*

A movement of money between two Financial Accounts in the same Space. It never leaves Monime, so no bank or mobile money network is involved.

## Minor units

*Also: minor units, minor unit, minor currency units*

The smallest unit of a currency, which the API uses for every amount: a `value` of `25000` in SLE is SLE 250.00.

## Mobile money

*Also: mobile money, Mobile Money*

Money kept in a wallet linked to a phone number and run by a mobile network operator. Monime takes payments from, and pays out to, mobile money wallets.

## Monimeer

*Also: Monimeers*

A personal Monime user account, for a developer, operator or member of a finance team. One Monimeer can belong to several Spaces, with different roles in each.

## Ownership Graph

*Also: ownership graph, ownership graphs*

The chain that records where a resource came from, such as the checkout session and API request behind a payment. Every object carries it as `ownershipGraph`.

## Payment Code

*Also: Payment Codes, payment code, payment codes*

A short-lived code that a payer enters or scans, in USSD or QR flows, to pay you.

## Payout

*Also: Payouts, payout, payouts*

A transfer of money from a Financial Account to a bank account or mobile money wallet outside Monime, such as a salary or a vendor payment.

## Receipt

*Also: Receipts*

A record, created when a payment completes, of what the customer is entitled to, such as tickets, vouchers or credits.

## Space

*Also: Spaces*

The account of a business on Monime, and the boundary around its data. Every resource belongs to one Space, and every API request names the Space it acts in.

## Space ID

*Also: Space IDs*

The identifier of a Space, starting with `spc-`. Send it in the `Monime-Space-Id` header of every API request.

## Test mode and live mode

*Also: Test mode, test mode, Test Mode, live mode, Live mode*

Monime's two separate environments. Test tokens, which start with `mon_test_`, move no real money; live tokens start with `mon_`. Test and live data never mix.

## USSD flow

*Also: USSD flows, USSD Flow, USSD Flows*

A menu customers reach by dialling a short code on any phone. You design it in the dashboard, and it can take mobile money payments with no payment integration.

## Webhook

*Also: Webhooks, webhooks, webhook*

An HTTPS endpoint of yours that Monime calls with a `POST` request when events you subscribe to happen, such as a payment completing.
